Maddie’s Secret!
(EDP)
This week I flew to Los Angeles for the premiere of Maddie’s Secret, a sincerely moving and hilarious new film written by and starring John Early. For the project, I created a perfume also called Maddie’s Secret, an imagined scent for the film’s ingenue.
The fragrance opens with chocolate milk before unfolding into night-blooming jasmine, saffron, toasted rice, and a spark of Sichuan pepper.
“A limited edition gourmand from radi$h, made for every ‘good girl’ on the verge of liberation, handcrafted by cult perfumer Marissa Zappas with comedian and filmmaker John Early.
At first, she behaves. The fragrance opens like a good girl should: bright, comforting, familiar. Night-blooming jasmine, almost velvety. The coziness of chocolate milk. The warmth of saffron. A wink at influencer-approved ingredients, a nod to Maddie's Los Angeles, to innocence and maternal comfort.
As it settles, she begins to unravel, and so do her secrets. Toasted rice gone hot. Sichuan pepper flickering beneath the surface. The blooms turn intoxicating after dark, always threatening to spill. Sweet on the surface, something wilder, ALIVE underneath.
This EDP is a love letter to John Early's directorial debut, Maddie's Secret, and an ode to its heroine, Maddie Ralph, an unlikely food influencer with a secret she's carried since girlhood. Will Maddie be a good girl forever? Or is this her moment to break free?
A classic recipe, rewritten just for you. A “good girl’ gone gloriously complex.”
The premiere was such a joy, and I’m so excited that the fragrance is finally making its way into the world. Thank you to Radi$h, Deb Tam, Ruby McCollister, Magnolia Pictures, Unapologetic, and of course John Early for making this dream project possible.
The presale is now live at maddiessecrets.com. Snag a bottle before it sells out!
